The Burlington School District is seeking an interim High School Assistant Principal who assists the school principal in providing direction, leadership, and day-to-day management of educational activities of the school environment guided by the District’s mission, vision and strategic goals. This interim position is for the 24-25 school year. 

 

The Assistant Principal plays an integral role in the establishment and maintenance of a school climate that is conducive to learning, including overseeing the enforcement of school rules and regulations, and the implementation of disciplinary measures when deemed necessary.  The Assistant Principal serves as part of the assigned school’s administrative team; oversees the administration of school programs and the implementation of policies; provides supervision and evaluation services; and plans, organizes and evaluates services for professional and non-professional personnel including an array of staff development activities, meetings, and instructional opportunities.

  

JOB GOAL: To use leadership, organizational, supervisory and management skills to provide effective and efficient daily operation of the school including oversight of several departments, grade levels of students, and student activities.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of three years of successful teaching, counseling and/or special education experience;
  • Evidence of professional growth and academic credit that is above/beyond mandatory credits and courses needed to fulfill state certification requirements.  A Master’s Degree in the area of educational administration is desired, but not required;
  • A demonstrated ability to work with students especially EL and special education, staff and the community;
  • A demonstrated ability to lead and supervise adults

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Department Liaison: Provides instructional and operational leadership to support achievement for all students with a focus on several school departments; supervises and monitors the instructional staff and oversees school budget expenditures in assigned departments; works with the principal to develop the curriculum and recommend curricular changes where appropriate; assists in the development of the master schedule with special attention to the departments supervised;
  • Student Management: Relates to students with mutual respect while carrying out a positive and effective discipline policy with assigned grade levels (either 9&11 or 10&12); coordinates the Student Support Team and work with the Dean of Students to build a positive school climate, providing behavior interventions in a restorative environment; supports the school’s Mental Health Team and Safety Team; 
  • School Priorities/Systems: Work with the high school administrative team to implement and support the school’s action plan and school systems such as Attendance and Grading, 
  • Administrative Team: Participates in weekly administrator meetings with the principal and administrative leadership; develops in-service professional development aligned with school and district vision; serves as liaison with student activities, programs and events including the school's community service program as needed;
  • Communication/Professional Growth: Communicates regularly and effectively with students, educational staff, parents, community members, and district staff; maintains a commitment to ongoing growth in self and others, supporting and participating in district and site professional growth programs; and
  • Other: Performs all other duties as assigned.

  2. Training and/or experience with group facilitation and process management.
