The Department of Multilingual Learners is seeking an English Learner (EL) English teacher for the Pathfinder EL Summer enrichment program at Burlington High School. The 4-week EL Pathfinder Program allows English Learners who are entering grades 9-12 to enhance their skills in English for academic purposes AND offers an opportunity to work on a multifaceted project to help educators learn more about the strengths and needs of multilingual learners. The program includes targeted skill development, active learning and paid work experience for students. Students generally selected are among the newest arrivals to education in the US, and can be expected to have beginner to intermediate proficiency in English. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience working with English Learners in English content, academic language, and in project-based learning.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Job Requirements:

  • Licensed or eligible for Vermont Educators License. 
  • EL endorsement strongly preferred
  • Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Commitment to work all 4 program weeks, June 24th - July 19th

Experience:

  • Previous experience and Training working with English language learners, ideally at the secondary level.
  • Previous experience working in a summer learning program. Or understanding of summer learning.
  • Experience working with Multilingual Liaisons or interpreters preferred.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of best practices regarding relationship building, creating a safe yet challenging learning environment, and motivation and student management, particularly for students who are not yet fully proficient in English.
  • Evidence of strong connection with students and families
  • Experience working with Multilingual Liaisons or interpreters preferred.
  • Knowledge of secondary English/EL research-based best practices, including project-based and hands-on learning 

SALARY: This position is paid Bi-Weekly

 

Dates:6/24/24 - 7/19/24 (no class on July 4th)

Times:  8am-3pm [student contact 9-12 and 12:30-2:30]
