The Sustainability Academy is seeking a part time (0.4FTE) passionate and energetic Art Teacher to join a school committed to high levels of achievement of all students.  This position requires teaming with other elementary level art teachers to plan a continuum of art offerings and to support students from diverse backgrounds finding success in school. The position will likely include the teaching of Art 1 and Art 2.     

 

Job Requirements:

  • Licensed or eligible for Vermont Educators License.
  • Endorsement in secondary art or eligible for Vermont Provisional License.
  • Documented or eligible for NCLB Highly Qualified Teacher status.
  • Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching at the elementary level.
  • Proficiency with multiple media, visual literacy including art elements and principles, art history, aesthetics, and organizing an arts classroom environment.
  • Experience in differentiating instruction and planning curriculum using “backwards design” and formative assessments.
  • Experience in integrating technology into classroom instruction.
  • Understanding of Cultural Competency (as explained through Essay 1 on SchoolSpring).
  • Knowledge of best practices in engaging and motivating students and managing student behaviors.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Experience in professional/teaching learning community groups including working collaboratively with colleagues to plan units of study, review student data and progress, and adjust instruction.
  • A commitment to student-centered learning approaches including personalizing instruction and supporting students meeting core proficiencies
  • Training and/or experience with English Language Learners
  • Experience in implementing inclusive practices for students with disabilities
  • Ongoing post graduate coursework in education or art  

SALARY: As per the Master Agreement between the Burlington Board of School Commissioners and the Burlington Education Association.
