BHS is seeking a passionate and energetic School Counselor to join a school committed to high levels of achievement of all students.  This position requires working with a caseload of up to 300 students from diverse backgrounds and providing counseling, academic planning, and consultation services as part of a fast-paced, high-energy, and positive school counseling team. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE: 

The following are Required:

  1. Licensed or eligible for Vermont Educators License.
  2. Endorsed as a School Counselor or eligible for Vermont Provisional License.
  3. Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  4. Three letters of recommendation and transcripts uploaded to SchoolSpring.com.
  5. Understanding of Cultural Competency (as explained through Essay 1 on SchoolSpring).
  6. Experience at the high school level.
  7. Knowledge of best practices regarding frameworks of student behavioral support.
  8. Experience providing individual and group counseling and/or providing crisis assessment, intervention, and referrals to appropriate agencies.
  9. Experience providing academic planning to high school students, including post-secondary planning.
  10. Experience providing consultation with colleagues and with multiple student support systems.

The following are Preferred:

  1. Experience leading and managing group meetings and presenting information in a variety of formats and settings.
  2. Experience working with or providing counseling services with refugee, English Language Learner, multi-cultural and/or special needs students and their parents.
  3. Experience in professional/teaching learning communities or other evidence of facilitative or collaborative teamwork.
  4. Strong communication skills as evidenced through quality of resume, cover

letter, and essays.

  1. Ongoing educational coursework in school counseling. 

SALARY:      As per the Master Agreement between the Burlington Board of School Commissioners and the Burlington Education Association.
