Horizons is a small alternative high school environment for students who are not successful in a traditional education setting.  Horizons is seeking a passionate and energetic English Teacher (.74 FTE) to join a school committed to high levels of achievement of all students.  This position requires teaming with other teachers in our vibrant learning community. This is an LTC position.

Job Requirements:

• Licensed or eligible for Vermont Educators License.
• Endorsement in high school English or eligible for Vermont Provisional License.
• Documented or eligible for NCLB Highly Qualified Teacher status.
• Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Required Qualifications:

• Experience teaching at the high school level.
• Understanding of Cultural Competency (as explained through Essay 1 on SchoolSpring)
• Knowledge of curriculum planning using “backwards design”, differentiated instruction, and formative assessment.
• Knowledge of best practices regarding frameworks of student behavioral support.

Preferred Attributes:

• Training and experience with English Language Learners.
• Familiarity with integrated technology as a learning tool.
• Experience in a professional/teaching learning community or similar learning community.
• Ongoing educational training.

SALARY:As per the Master Agreement between the Burlington Board of School Commissioners and the Burlington Education Association.
