School Bus Driver

The primary goal of the Bus Driver is to safely transfer our students to and from their residences to the schools in a timely and proficient manner. A School Bus Driver must be comfortable and experienced in driving large vehicles, and possess the interpersonal skills to deal with any situations that may arise while onboard with students. The Bus Driver must obey all local driving ordinances, and keep the bus sanitary for students.
Essential Job Functions:
- Observe all safety regulations and procedures, and notifies management of such concerns if encountered.
- Obeys all traffic laws.
- Maintains discipline when students are on the bus.
- Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority.
- Keep the assigned bus clean.
- Checks bus before each operation for mechanical failure or lateness.
- Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
- Discharge students only at authorized stops.
- Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of-district trips.
- Transports only authorized students.
- Reports all accidents and completes required reports.
- Enforces regulations against smoking and eating on the bus.
- Use discretion in discussing school affairs, recognizing the value of positive school-community relations.
- Comply with Board and administrative policies, regulations, and procedures and reinforces students’ doing the same.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Attend scheduled department meetings.
- Attendance in accordance with established days/hours of work.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Property Services or designee.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Job Requirements:
- Education: A High School Diploma or equivalent. Must hold a Vermont Driver’s License in the appropriate class.
- Experience: Previous experience in transportation/driving. Experience working in a school environment/with children.
EMPLOYMENT BENEFITS/TERMS:
- SALARY: As per the Master agreement between the Burlington Board of School Commissioners and the Burlington Education Association. This is a hourly position paid Bi-Weekly

- PAID TIME: Sick Time / Personal Time / Holidays / Vacation As per the Master Agreement
