The Burlington School District is seeking a passionate and energetic Planning Room Paraeducator to join a team that is committed to high levels of achievement of all students. The Planning Room Paraeducator will work closely with the school personnel to support students who are struggling with social, emotional, behavioral, and academic engagement barriers to learning. Knowledge of Restorative Practices is essential. The Planning Room Paraeducator assists professionals in the development and implementation of a constructive alternative room and in-school disciplinary program.

 

The essential functions of this position include:

Support the developmental growth of each child:

  1. Facilitate children's engagement in play activities by asking children open-ended questions about their activity and offering suggestions to add more complex materials and ideas.
  2. Facilitate language development by describing to children their activity as well as the adult’s activity as they are happening.
  3. Use motivation/positive behavior management technique.
  4. Understand young children, their behaviors and motivation.

Work Collaboratively with Teaching Team:

  1. Assist professional staff in supervising students across environments
  2. Assist professional staff in the maintenance and operation of classrooms by prepping materials and classroom for daily activities
  3. Assist professional staff with the collation, collating and recording of data

Planning Room Responsibilities:

 

  1. Management of school behavioral expectations, including attendance classroom alignment with school-wide goals.
  2. Collaboration with students, parents, and teachers regarding student-related policies.
  3. Collaboration with staff in the creation and alignment of classroom student behavioral expectations and classroom management plans.
  4. Ability to serve as a resource to staff regarding student management issues & social-emotional learning.
  5. Assist in the development of embedded education alternatives for students in need.
  6. Collaborate with special educators in the development of behavioral and social-emotional learning plans.
  7. Support learning of students in the behavioral and social-emotional curriculum. Assist team with reviewing data related to student behavior through the student management system (PowerSchool).
  8. Compiles and shares student discipline data regularly to assist the team in making decisions.
  9. Serve on PBIS and Restorative Practices team.
  10. Attends appropriate meetings regarding student growth and success as needed
  11. Assists in the maintenance of the crisis management plan and school safety requirements.

Education:

Experience: 

The working conditions of this position include: 

  1. Work environment is a regular office, classroom, outdoor, community preschool or other school setting.
  2. Occasional exposure to weather extremes.
  3. Ability to tolerate extremes in noise levels.
  4. Strength and stamina to safely restrain a student

 

 

SALARY:

As per the Master Agreement between the Burlington Board of School Commissioners and the Paraeducators of the Burlington School District. 

In addition to the base rate of pay. Intensive Needs Paras will receive a premium for hours worked directly with intensive special needs (ISN) students of $4.00 per hour. 

 

BENEFITS:

Health and life insurance benefits are available for this position after a period of 45 working days. Dental benefits are available after 1 full working year.
