Burlington School District is seeking an energetic individual to fill out Carpenter position to support our Grounds Maintenance Team. Carpentry/Grounds Maintenance personnel are non-exempt/hourly positions that report to the Director of Property Services. This position is a member of the AFSCME union, under the Property Services Employees master agreement. The Carpentry/Grounds Maintenance personnel at the Burlington School District work to provide a variety of carpentry, maintenance and grounds services to meet the needs of the school district. The ideal candidate will be a team player with a positive attitude, reliable transportation and good time management skills.

The Essential Functions of this position include:

  1. Ideal candidate is someone with a wide range of general maintenance skills and able to perform a variety of jobs: playground repair and inspections, painting, building, erect, install, repair and help with grounds maintenance.
  2. May install drywall, lay down floors, build cabinets and complete various types of construction from putting up shades to building a gate, install and inspect equipment, appliances or machines.
  3. Able to operate commercial ground equipment such as dump trucks, plows, tractor, front end loader, zero turn mowers, snow blowers, chainsaws, hedge slippers.
  4. Operates a variety of tools, machinery and equipment and a variety of power and hand tools used in ground maintenance such as shovel, rakes, ax, brooms, and forks, leaf blowers and other tools.
  5. Troubleshoots issues to determine necessary repairs.
  6. Performs general repairs that do not require a specialized technician. Examples may include repairing drywall, painting, and repairing doors and other building fixtures.
  7. Follow all safety rules, policies and regulations. Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  8. Maintains accountability in maintaining assigned tools and equipment.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

The required education and experience for this position include: 

Education: 

  1. Minimum Required: High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience:  

  1. Minimum Required: Demonstrated aptitude and ability to meet responsibilities, outlined above.

  1. Ability to maintain a valid State Driver's license.
  2. Ability to follow instructions from supervisors or senior maintenance workers.
  3. Knowledge of general carpentry and repair.

  7. Ability to meet deadlines and schedules.
