The Mission of the Burlington School District is to graduate students who:

Burlington School District is seeking an energetic individual to fill out Custodial/Maintenance Utility position. Custodial/Maintenance Utility personnel at the Burlington School District work to provide a variety of maintenance and custodial services to meet the needs of the school district.  This individual will be roving custodian working in all of the Burlington School District schools filling absences of other custodial staff and performing light maintenance duties. The ideal candidate will be a team player with a positive attitude, reliable transportation and good time management skills. Preferred qualities include knowledge or floor refinishing, cleaning chemicals, and industry equipment.

The Essential Functions of this position include:

  1. Assumes the responsibilities and duties of a Head Custodian and/or a Building Custodian when such employees are absent.
  2. Performs repairs, preventative maintenance and other projects as assigned.
  3. bility to use brooms, brushes, mops, power-operated scrubbing machines, vacuum cleaners, buffers, shampooers, wet vacuums, liquid waxes & degreasers, dust absorbers, and other custodial supplies.
  4.  Assists the trades workers, grounds workers and custodian.
  5. Implementation and follow through of work as a result of Safety and Asbestos inspections.
  6. Exercises leadership and responsibility for the school facilities.
  7. Assures continuity when acting as Head Custodian to the second shift Building Custodians.
  8. Notifies the Director of Property Services of any safety or other issues that may require immediate corrective response.
  9. Maintains accountability in maintaining and inventorying assigned tools and equipment.
  10. Performs other duties as requested by the Director of Property Services and/or his/her designee.

The required education and experience for this position include: 

Education: 

  1. Minimum Required: High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience:  

Minimum required:

  1. Valid Vermont driver’s license.
  2. Working English language skills.
  3. Relevant work experience. 
  4. Demonstrated aptitude and competence for assigned responsibilities above.

  2.  Ability to use and care for building service equipment and supplies according to written and oral instructions.
  3. Ability to read and write at an acceptable level.
  4. Ability to communicate courteously, efficiently and effectively with a variety of individuals.
  5. Ability to adapt to changing work priorities, meet deadlines and schedules.
  6. Ability to perform work requiring moderate to heavy labor.
